Anyone who is concerned about the environment has been aware for years that Frog populations are declining. It’s always a warning sign when frogs start disappearing from local streams and ponds. When I was a kid I loved exploring the outdoors and often would find frogs, toads, and salamanders, but that’s less likely to happen nowadays. According to experts hundreds of species of frogs have gone extinct in the past 20 years!!!
Listening to the details on the morning news was painful and I’ve decided to do what little I can to help. I’ve just opened an account with RedBubble and plan to sell T-shirts featuring the the frogs from my artwork. For every purchase I will donate $1.00 to SaveaFrog.com. Saveafrog.com is run by the Atlanta Botanical Garden in Georgia. They strive to house and feed endangered frogs they rescue.
I’m also going to start making donations to Saveafrog.com from Ebay sales. My shop name is Makepeace Arts and for every purchase of a Frog Drawing or ACEO I will donate $1.00.
There are other ways to help save our frogs. Here are just a few:
- Prevent soil erosion by seeding for grass or planting shrubs;
- Avoid dumping chemicals down drains;
- Maintain vegetative buffer strips between your land and any surface waterbody; and
- Avoid releasing or transporting exotic plant or animal species into the environment.
